PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 10, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — PECO’s emergency operations centers are open, and we are working around the clock to restore service for customers left without electric service due to Tuesday night’s severe weather. High winds paired with significant rainfall brought down trees and tree branches and caused extensive damage to electric equipment across the region impacting approximately 215,000 customers. At the height of the storm, approximately 136,000 customers were impacted.
Working through the overnight hours, PECO crews, contract personnel, and mutual aid crews brought in from Maryland, Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina have restored electric service to approximately 163,000 customers in less than 24 hours. PECO is bringing in hundreds of additional personnel over the coming days to restore service for remaining customers as safely and quickly as possible.
As of 09:53 a.m. Wednesday, approximately 58,013 customers remain without service. We anticipate that we will be able to restore service for most of these affected customers by Thursday evening, however scattered outages may continue through Friday due to the severity of the damage.
