Authorities, Boards, Commissions and Committees serve in a variety of capacities with respect to
both the City Council and the City. Membership is granted either as an extension of the position
one holds within the City’s government or agency serving the needs of the City, or by
appointment. Some appointments are made, per the City Charter, at the sole discretion of the
acting City Council president; however, the majority of appointments are made by City Council
vote. The majority of boards require members to be City residents; however, there are a handful
of seats without this requirement as noted below.
Term lengths vary and are typically staggered to prevent multiple terms/seats from expiring
simultaneously. As such, new appointments are typically done each January by City Council.
