BE AWARE: Social Security Scams are on the Rise
BE CAUTIOUS OF WHO YOU ANSWER YOUR PHONES TO!!!
In 2023, consumers (especially seniors) fell victim to fraudulent schemes amounting to a staggering $10 billion in losses, with Social Security scams accounting for over $126 million of this total. These sophisticated scams often involve impostors posing as government officials to deceive individuals into divulging sensitive personal information or making payments under false pretenses. The Federal Trade Commission’s alarming figures underscore the importance of heightened vigilance and awareness.
To protect yourself and your loved ones from falling prey to these scams, it’s crucial to recognize the warning signs. Government agencies, such as the Social Security Administration, will never call you to threaten your benefits, demand immediate payment, or request personal information over the phone. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately and report the incident to the official government agency or the FTC.
